Getting Organized In The New Year

With the housework and the job, it’s easy to let clutter pile up as you tackle the tasks of your daily routine. The combination of dull weather and less social obligations help to make January a great time to get organized. With all of that Holiday Season shopping, hustle and bustle behind us, now we can turn our attention to getting organized!

5 Ways To Get Organized In The New Year

1. Begin by making a plan for yourself
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when we make a commitment that we want to “get organized.”  To prevent that, start with a list of specific ways you can reach that goal. For example, organizing one room at a time.

2. Clean out the closets
We’ve all heard of getting rid of clothing you haven’t worn in a year. If you haven’t done this recently, now is the time!  Also look online for great closet storage accessories to help provide more storage space for the items you decide to keep.

3. Use your crockpot to make freezer meals
On a busy evening full of kids activities and your fitness workout time, pulling a meal out of the freezer is a breeze. It can help you get your home organized and everyone eating healthier.

4. Create a system for keeping it clean
After you have made good progress getting your home organized, you will want to be prepared for the future.  So that all of your hard work is not in vain, start an organizing system (a process of how to do things and then finding containers that the items are housed in) by writing down rules to be followed and posting it where everyone can see it.

5. Be on clutter patrol
Keeping things out of your home in the first place will eliminate a lot of clutter.  If someone gives you free items like a coffee mug or t-shirt that you really can’t use, drop them off at a donation center on your way home.  Do you love to read? Use a borrow and return service, rather than buying new.

Don’t get discouraged if de-cluttering takes longer than you expected. Just stay focused and determined and you’ll have it under control in no time.  And remember The Cleaning Advantage is always ready to help with house cleaning, allowing you more time to get organized!
